CEED 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Full pageThe Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) 2027 is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). It is used for admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) and selected Ph.D. programmes at participating institutes.

Candidates should note that eligibility to appear for CEED is different from eligibility for admission to a particular M.Des. or Ph.D. programme. Each institute sets its own admission requirements, which may include specific academic qualifications, tests, interviews or other selection criteria.

Candidates must satisfy at least one of the prescribed educational qualification routes to be eligible for the examination.
1. Educational Qualification for CEED 2027
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification conditions specified in the CEED 2027 information brochure.
Graduate Degree Holders
Candidates who have completed a graduate degree programme of at least three years' duration after Class 12 can apply for CEED 2027.
The qualification must meet the requirements stated in the official information brochure. Candidates should check whether their degree is recognised and whether their preferred postgraduate programme accepts the qualification.
Diploma Holders
Candidates who have completed a diploma programme of at least three years' duration after Class 12 can apply, subject to the official eligibility rules.
Applicants should verify that their diploma meets the duration and qualification requirements before submitting the application.
Postgraduate Degree Holders
Candidates who have completed a postgraduate degree programme of at least three years' duration after Class 12 are eligible under the qualifying programme criteria, subject to the official rules.
Candidates should check the eligibility requirements of the M.Des. or Ph.D. programme to which they intend to apply, as institute-specific admission criteria may differ.
Five-Year Government Diploma in Art (G.D. Art)
Candidates who have passed the five-year Government Diploma in Art (G.D. Art) after Class 10 by July 2027 are also eligible to appear for CEED 2027.
Applicants using this qualification should ensure that their certificate establishes completion of the recognised five-year programme and is available for verification.
2. CEED 2027 Eligibility for Final-Year Students
Candidates who are appearing for the final examination of an eligible degree, diploma or postgraduate programme by July 2027 can apply for CEED 2027.
Such candidates should obtain a certificate from their college principal or head of department in the format prescribed in the official brochure, if the final degree or diploma certificate is not yet available.
Final-year applicants should confirm the academic completion requirements of their preferred institutions. Being eligible to appear for CEED does not automatically mean that a candidate will satisfy the final admission conditions of every institute.
3. CEED 2027 Age Limit
There is no age limit for appearing in CEED 2027.
Candidates are not required to satisfy a minimum or maximum age condition under the published examination eligibility rules. However, applicants should still meet the prescribed educational qualification requirements and any separate eligibility conditions imposed by their preferred institutes.
4. CEED 2027 Number of Attempts
There is no restriction on the number of attempts for CEED 2027 under the official examination rules.
Eligible candidates can appear for CEED multiple times, provided they meet the qualifying requirements for each examination cycle.
Candidates should remember that a CEED scorecard is valid for one year from the date of result declaration. A score from an earlier year cannot automatically be used for admission in a later academic cycle.
5. Is a Design Degree Required for CEED 2027?
A design degree is not specified as a universal requirement for appearing in CEED 2027. Candidates who meet the published qualifying programme criteria can apply, subject to the examination rules.
However, the academic background required for admission varies by institute and programme. Some postgraduate design programmes may accept applicants from multiple disciplines, while others may prescribe specific degree subjects or additional academic conditions.
Candidates should review the admission criteria of the particular M.Des. or Ph.D. programme they wish to pursue before applying for CEED.
6. CEED Examination Eligibility vs. Admission Eligibility
Qualifying for CEED and meeting a particular institute's admission requirements are two separate stages.
Factor | CEED Examination | M.Des./Ph.D. Admission |
|---|---|---|
Educational Qualification | Must meet the qualifying programme criteria in the CEED brochure | Depends on the institute and programme |
Age Limit | No age limit | Any additional requirements are set by the institute |
Number of Attempts | No limit | Subject to the admission cycle and programme rules |
Entrance Score | CEED qualification provides the relevant examination score | Institutes use the score according to their admission policies |
Additional Selection | Not applicable to the examination itself | May include tests, interviews, portfolio review or other assessments |
Candidates should consult the official admission notification of each participating institute because CEED qualification does not guarantee admission.
7. Documents Required to Verify CEED 2027 Eligibility
Candidates should prepare the documents relevant to their qualification and category.
Degree, diploma or postgraduate certificate, if the qualifying programme has been completed.
Final-year marksheet or provisional certificate, if available.
Certificate from the college principal or head of department in the prescribed format, if the qualifying programme is still in progress.
Five-year Government Diploma in Art certificate, for candidates applying through the G.D. Art route.
Valid category certificates, where applicable.
PwD certificate or other prescribed disability documentation, where applicable.
Official name-change documentation, if the name differs from the qualifying certificate.
Documents must be uploaded in the prescribed formats during registration. Candidates should refer to the CEED 2027 information brochure for the exact requirements.

Candidates can confirm their eligibility by following these steps:

If appearing for a final examination, verify that it will take place by July 2027.
