NATA 2027 — At a Glance

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) to assess a candidate's aptitude for studying architecture. A valid NATA score is used for admission to the 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) programme at architecture institutions across India.

NATA tests skills that are central to architecture: drawing and composition, observation, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, critical thinking and numerical ability. It is an aptitude test, so it rewards practice in drawing and visual thinking rather than memorisation of a school syllabus.

About NATA and the Council of Architecture

The Council of Architecture is a statutory body constituted under the Architects Act, 1972. It maintains the register of architects in India and regulates the standards of architectural education and practice. Minimum standards of architectural education are laid down in the CoA's Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations.

The Council has conducted NATA since 2006. According to the NATA 2026 brochure, around 369 institutions offer recognised architectural education in India.

NATA is a qualifying test. The Council conducts the exam and issues scorecards, but it does not allot seats. Admissions are carried out by the competent authorities of states, union territories and individual institutions, using their own merit lists and rules.

NATA 2027 Results and Qualifying Criteria

NATA 2027 Admission Process

After the result, candidates must apply separately to the state counselling authorities and institutes they are interested in. Each authority conducts its own registration, document verification, merit list, choice filling and seat allotment. Read the NATA Counselling and Admission Process.

Note: NITs and other JoSAA institutes admit B.Arch students through JEE Main Paper 2A, not NATA. Students interested in design can also explore UCEED.

Pro Tip: Many architecture aspirants also take JEE Main Paper 2A, because NITs and other JoSAA institutes admit B.Arch students through it, not NATA.
