GATE 2027 Notification: Download PDF

IIT Madras has released the GATE 2027 notification on the official website. The notification comes with the information brochure, which is the only document you should trust for eligibility rules, fee slabs, paper combinations and exam dates.

Click Here to Download the Official GATE 2027 Information Brochure

The brochure have the following details:

  • Registration schedule: Opening date, regular deadline and extended deadline with late fee

  • Eligibility norms: Including the relaxed rule that allows third-year students to apply

  • Paper list and codes: All 30 papers with the approved two-paper combinations

  • Fee structure: Category-wise fee per test paper

  • Syllabus PDFs: Separate syllabus for each of the 30 papers

  • Exam city list: Zone-wise centres you can choose from

Once the notification is out, you should download the PDF and read the paper-combination table carefully. Choosing a second paper is only allowed for a fixed set of pairs, and the fee doubles if you opt for two papers.

GATE 2027 Registration: Check GATE Application Process

As per the IIT Madras official update, GATE 2027 registration has started on 27th August 2026 through the GOAPS portal. The entire process is online, from form filling to fee payment, and no offline mode is available.

  • The last date to complete GATE 2027 registration without a late fee is September 27, 2026.

  • Candidates who miss the regular deadline can still submit the GATE 2027 application form with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

  • The GATE 2027 application correction window is expected to open after the registration process, allowing candidates to make changes to the details permitted by the conducting authority.

  • Candidates should check the official GATE 2027 website for the confirmed correction dates and details that can be edited in the application form.

Here is how you can apply for GATE 2027:

  • Step 1: Visit the official GATE 2027 website and open the GOAPS registration link

  • Step 2: Register with your name, date of birth, email ID and mobile number to generate your Enrollment ID and password

  • Step 3: Log in and fill your personal, academic and communication details

  • Step 4: Select your test paper, second paper (if applicable) and three exam city preferences

  • Step 5: Upload your photograph, signature, category certificate and degree certificate as per the given size and format

  • Step 6: Pay the application fee online through UPI, net banking, debit card or credit card

  • Step 7: Submit the form and download the confirmation page for your records

Do not wait for the last week. The GOAPS portal slows down close to the deadline every year, and a failed payment on the final day can cost you the whole cycle.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

The GATE 2027 application fee is likely to stay the same as the GATE 2026 slabs.

  • IIT Guwahati raised the fee last year by Rs 100 for female, SC, ST and PwD students and by Rs 200 for everyone else.

  • The fee is charged per test paper, so a two-paper attempt costs double.

  • The fee is non-refundable.

  • If you make changes during the correction window, such as switching your exam city or adding a second paper, you may have to pay a small modification charge.

GATE 2027 Syllabus

The GATE 2027 syllabus has been released paper-wise with the information brochure. No major change is expected, since the syllabus has stayed largely stable across recent cycles.

Every paper has three parts:

  • General Aptitude (15 marks): Verbal aptitude, quantitative aptitude, analytical aptitude, and spatial aptitude. Common to all 30 papers.

  • Engineering Mathematics (around 13 marks): Linear algebra, calculus, differential equations, probability and statistics, numerical methods. Present in most engineering papers.

  • Core subject (around 72 marks): The technical syllabus of your chosen paper.

General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics together give you close to 28 marks, and these are the cheapest marks in the paper. Many students who miss the cutoff by 2 or 3 marks have ignored exactly these two sections.

GATE 2027 Result and Scorecard

The GATE 2027 result is expected in the third week of March 2027 on the GOAPS portal. Your GATE 2027 scorecard will stay valid for three years, so a score earned in 2027 can be used until 2030 for admission.

  • Last year, IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026

  • IIT Madras is likely to follow a similar schedule.

  • Only about 16 to 20 percent of students who appear manage to qualify each year.

  • In GATE 2025, 1,41,802 students qualified out of 7,47,319 who appeared.

GATE 2027 Cutoff

The GATE 2027 cutoff will be released paper-wise and category-wise along with the result.

The qualifying cutoff is calculated using a fixed formula.

  • For the General category, it is the higher of 25 marks or the mean plus standard deviation of all marks in that paper, capped at 40.

  • The OBC-NCL and EWS cutoff is 90 percent of the General cutoff, and the SC, ST and PwD cutoff is two-thirds of the General cutoff.

GATE 2027 Counselling: COAP and CCMT

GATE 2027 counselling is not a single centralised process. Admissions run through two separate portals depending on where you want to study, and both open a few weeks after the result.

  • COAP works on a rolling-offer system. You apply directly to each IIT, receive offers round by round, and choose to accept, retain or reject each one.

  • CCMT uses choice filling and seat allotment rounds, closer to the JoSAA model.

PSU Recruitment Through GATE 2027

A GATE 2027 score is not only an admission ticket. Many Public Sector Undertakings shortlist engineers purely on GATE marks, with no separate written test.

  • PSUs that recruit through GATE include IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, GAIL, PGCIL, HPCL, BPCL, NPCIL, SAIL and Coal India.

  • Research bodies such as BARC, ISRO and DRDO also use GATE scores for some roles.

  • Score required: Usually 700 to 900, depending on the PSU and your branch

  • Selection stages: GATE score shortlisting, then group discussion and personal interview

  • Score validity for PSUs: Most PSUs accept only the current year GATE score

  • Branches in demand: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, Chemical, Instrumentation and CS

If a PSU job is your goal, you cannot treat qualifying marks as your target, since PSU cutoffs sit far above the qualifying cutoff.

GATE 2027 Preparation Tips

With around seven months left before the GATE 2027 exam, you still have enough time for a full syllabus cycle plus two revision rounds. What matters now is a schedule you can actually follow.

  • Finish the syllabus first: Split the core subject into high-weightage and low-weightage topics using the last 10 years of papers, and clear the high-weightage ones first.

  • Do not skip General Aptitude: 15 marks come from GA, and most of it is scoring. Give it 30 minutes a day rather than saving it for January.

  • Build a formula notebook: One page per chapter. This becomes your only revision material in the last two weeks.

  • Solve previous year papers: GATE repeats concepts, not questions. Solving 10 years of PYQs teaches you exactly how a concept gets twisted into a question.

  • Take timed mock tests: Start weekly mocks from October and move to twice weekly from December. Practise on a screen, not on paper, because the real exam is a CBT.

  • Analyse every mock: Your mistakes fall into three buckets, which are concept gaps, silly errors and time mismanagement. Track which bucket is costing you the most.

  • Control negative marking: A blind guess on a 2-mark MCQ costs you 2/3 mark. Guess only when you can eliminate two options.
