What Is NMAT?
NMAT by GMAC is an entrance examination designed to evaluate the language, numerical and reasoning skills required for management education. It is commonly considered by candidates seeking admission to MBA and other eligible postgraduate management programmes in India.
The examination uses a computer-adaptive format in which questions are selected and adjusted according to the assessment system. Candidates can choose the order in which they attempt the three sections, but each section has a fixed time limit.
NMAT is accepted by participating business schools rather than every MBA college in India. Candidates should confirm whether their chosen institution accepts NMAT scores for their particular programme and admission year.
NMAT 2026 Exam Pattern
The NMAT examination consists of three separately timed sections. Candidates have 120 minutes to answer 108 questions.
Section | Questions | Duration |
|---|---|---|
Language Skills | 36 | 28 minutes |
Quantitative Skills | 36 | 52 minutes |
Logical Reasoning | 36 | 40 minutes |
Total | 108 | 120 minutes |
Each section has a scaled score range of 12–120, giving a total score range of 36–360. The examination does not have negative marking. Candidates cannot transfer unused time between sections or return to a section after completing it.

Candidates should refer to the official examination resources for the latest syllabus guidance and question formats.

Before applying, candidates should check the eligibility rules for their target MBA or postgraduate management course. Meeting the NMAT examination requirements does not automatically guarantee eligibility for every participating business school.
