What These Numbers Mean for You
-
PCM is the bigger battle. Over 4.5 lakh candidates appeared in the PCM first attempt — nearly double the PCB first-attempt turnout. Engineering aspirants compete in a much larger pool.
-
The second attempt is popular. More than 3.2 lakh candidates registered for the PCM second attempt, showing that a large share of students used the chance to improve their percentile.
-
The top is extremely thin. Only 26 candidates scored 100 percentile in the PCM first attempt (15 Open, 6 OBC, 1 SC, 1 ST and 3 OMS, as per the press note). Because percentiles are calculated session-wise, a 100 percentile means topping your own session.
-
Attendance drops in the second attempt. Attendance was 94.73% for PCM first attempt and 88.57% for the second — many students register as a safety net and skip if satisfied with their first score.
Engineering Admissions 2026-27 in Context
Media reports citing the CET Cell, published after the CAP for First Year B.E./B.Tech closed on 15 September 2026, put engineering intake at around 387 colleges and about 2.1 lakh seats, of which roughly 1.82 lakh were filled. These figures are from secondary news reports, not an official CET Cell press note, so treat them as indicative.
Key Takeaways
About 4.54 lakh candidates appeared in MHT CET 2026 PCM first attempt and 2.63 lakh in PCB first attempt.
Over 3.2 lakh candidates registered for the PCM second attempt.
A total of 53 candidates across all four attempt groups scored 100 percentile.
Results for all four attempt groups were declared between 9 and 18 June 2026.
Pro Tip: Your percentile shows how you performed relative to others in your session. Aim to improve your raw score in mock tests consistently — a few extra marks can move you by thousands of merit ranks in the 95–99 percentile band where most popular colleges close.
