How the Result Is Decided
No sectional cutoff: Merit is drawn on cumulative marks of Parts A, B and C.
Minimum bench mark: 33% for General, EWS and OBC; 25% for SC, ST and PwD — for all three categories.
JRF distribution: Ranks are first allotted to JRF qualifiers, who are then distributed between CSIR and UGC in the ratio of fellowships shared for each subject.
Number of fellowships per subject is limited and varies from cycle to cycle, so cutoffs change every time.

Key Takeaways
Earth Sciences had the highest JRF cutoff in June 2026 (71.02% UR); Mathematical Sciences the lowest (43% UR).
There is no sectional cutoff — total marks decide merit.
Minimum: 33% (General/EWS/OBC) and 25% (SC/ST/PwD).
Cutoffs change every cycle with the number of fellowships and paper difficulty.
Pro Tip: Use the Category 2 cutoff as your minimum target and the JRF cutoff as your stretch target. In Life Sciences, that meant about 60% and 66.5% (UR) in June 2026.
