What Changed in NID Admissions 2027
NID’s 2027-28 admissions bring some important changes compared with earlier years. If you have been reading older guides, check these carefully.

1. A New 5.5-Year Undergraduate Programme
At NID Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru, the undergraduate entry programme is now the 5.5-year Professional Education Master of Design (Integrated Pathway) — 11 semesters leading to a master’s-level qualification. The newer NIDs (Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Assam) are listed under “5.5-Year Integrated M.Des / 4-Year B.Des”; NID Assam offers a full-time 4-year B.Des.
2. Prelims Is Only for Shortlisting
The handbook states that the DAT Prelims score will be used only for shortlisting for the DAT Mains and will not be carried forward as weightage. Final merit is based on the DAT Mains.
3. New UG Mains Format
The UG DAT Mains has two parts: a Studio Sensitivity Test and an In-Person Sensitivity Test. M.Des candidates take a Studio Test and an Interview.
4. Clear Shortlisting Ratios
Programme | Candidates shortlisted for Mains |
|---|---|
UG (Integrated M.Des / B.Des) | 2.5 times the seats in each category |
M.Des | 4.5 times the seats per category per discipline |
5. Lower Fee for Female Candidates
Female candidates (except SC, ST and PwD, who already pay lower fees) pay ₹2,000 instead of ₹3,000.
Key Takeaways
NID A/G/B now admit UG students to a 5.5-year Integrated M.Des.
Prelims scores do not count in final merit.
UG Mains = Studio Sensitivity Test + In-Person Sensitivity Test.
Pro Tip: Ignore old “Prelims 30% + Mains 70%” formulas — under the 2027-28 handbook, your final rank depends on the Mains.
